Nowadays, people all attach great importance to skin protection, but only few people would pay close attention to eyes. Actually, some studies suggest that UV rays are really harmful to eyes and may cause keratitis, cataracts, retinal damage and so on. Therefore, we should also attach importance to the protection of the eyes from the sunlight.

Don’t look directly at the harsh glare of the sun. Eyes are very vulnerable. Looking directly at the sun during a short time can result in a temporary shadow before the vision. Direct view to sun for a long time may bring about damage to eye and retina, accompanied with pain, tears, inflammation and blurred vision.

Actually, eyes are the most sensitive to UV, they can absorb UV with a wide range of wavelength, The ultraviolet radiation with 280nm wavelength does the most damage to the cornea, and it is the cause of conjunctivitis. The ultraviolet radiation with 290-400nm wavelength causes great damage to the lens, and it is also the cause of cataract.

Research suggests that one more hour you bask in the sun every day; you are likely to get cataract with 10% more chance. In that case, what steps are being taken to prevent harms?

Remember to make use of sun protection equipments such as hat, parasol and optical when you are outsides in the sun. It is worth noting that the quality of sunglasses is of vital importance to your eyes. You’d better choose good ones. Sunglasses of poor quality can’t help in protection but result in injury to eyes.

It is necessary for you to have a pair of optical eyeglasses with a special coating that locks UV light in summer. Medical studies have shown that the neutral glass and gray lens are the best choices for sunglasses, because the deep-colored lens will easily adopt more UV. People who wear contact lenses can choose those which have the function of anti-ultraviolet ray, because they are able to filter 90% of the ultraviolet ray. Your eyes will be safer if you add a pair of optical glasses.

The sunlight in the midday is the most sinister, not only to the skin but also to the eyes, avoiding going out is the best approach.
